LIFT OFF

The first short in our original IP and Unreal Engine animation series of short stories, our goal with Lift Off was to kick off our series by creating a short film to proof out and stress test the workflow that has become our standard for UE cinematics: XSens mocap for body animation, IPhone ARkit for facial capture, Metahuman to drive the face mesh of our characters, then stage, lookdev and light, tweak animation and then render in Unreal Engine. The speed of this workflow allows our creatives to rapidly prototype ideas and iterate passes much faster than traditional, offline VFX workflows

Staged and rendered completely in UE4, the character's face was driven with Metahuman and all of the complex facial animation was done completely in Unreal either through streaming IPhone data, or keyframing within the engine.

LIFT OFF

As said above, Lift Off was really our proof of concept for the real-time content creation workflow that we had been developing ever since we got Early-Access to the Metahuman Creator Beta. This workflow allows us to create engaging, high quality cinematic content with a small team in a very compact timeframe compared to traditional VFX workflows
